The Arakan Kingdom is located West of the Arakan Yoma mountain range and therefore secluded from the rest of Burma, resulting in a somewhat individual development even though it was conquered by the Myanmar/Pagan Kingdom in the 11th century. Arakan images are rare and with the exception of very few pieces lack the skill of craftmenship of the other Burmese images.
The Mon Kingdom was established after the fall of the Funan Kingdom around the Gulf of Martaban. It only produced its own distinctive art until the 11th/12th century. Until that time they are highly desirable collectors items. After it was conquered by Myanmar, the styles blended until they became indistinguishable in the 16th century
